The Essential Counsellor - Supporting Staff through Difficulties( 1 day workshop )

Introduction

Sometimes a deterioration in the performance of a staff goes beyond just them not knowing what or how to do their jobs. They could be experiencing difficulties of a more personal nature that might be affecting their motivation and attitude. These underlying issues can be addressed through the counseling process. Staff feel supported and comforted when they know that there is someone, either their leaders or those who take on the counseling role, who is willing to listen to them and understand their problems and challenges. In addition to the important feeling of being supported and understood, staff are left feeling empowered through the counseling process. They begin to realize that there are aspects of the situation that they are in that they can influence and therefore help themselves.

This Essential Counseling Skills workshop is design to help managers, supervisors and team leaders, or those who take on the counseling role, to give this support without taking away the responsibility of the staff for their own performance and at the same time look after the emotional health of their team or those under their care.

The Basics Of Sustainable Digital Printing

By Stacey Burt

In the recent past people have become aware of the impacts of environmental degradation. As such there have been measures and attempts to develop products for this purpose. Among them is sustainable digital printing. This started only as a fad but has been growing in strength and influence that promoters and publishers have taken a serious approach to it.

Digital Printing refers to transferring a document on a computer or other storage device to a printing substrate by means of a device that accepts text and graphic output. This recent process was developed to replace the earlier lithographic process which depended heavily on printing plates, rubber blankets and repulsive oils, usually found in offset printing.

The advent of environmental consciousness among the general public has caused producers and print companies to feel the need to adopt to their needs. This has brought rise to the new trend of products dubbed as going green. Printing has advanced to green printing with new materials and new forms of printers such as the laser jet and ink jet types.

There are certain steps and measures that people have learnt and adopted in they strive to progress into this particular printing and publishing. Key among them is the use of recyclable, renewable and biodegradable materials. These include vegetable based inks, recyclable paper produced under fair and safe working conditions among many more.

Another undertaking by people who support the digital migration of printing patterns and methods is the new trend of designing, making and using less paper. This is determined in terms of the size and weight of the paper. Designers have discovered that trimming a small portion of the paper in the average book would save up to 1000 sheets.

Package design has also evolved and is now moving towards Eco friendliness and sustainability. They have adopted new printing and packaging designs that are both functional in multiple ways and reusable. This form of packaging can be re-purposed for other uses such as creating chairs, pet houses, and light bulb holders among other uses.

A noted shift in the print and production is the introduction and popular uptake of modular design. This concept was borrowed from modular building from engineering and architectural circles. This trend involves creating custom solutions with prefabricated or standardized materials. Such materials are easily recyclable, easy to update and repair.

Fonts have also been a decision factor in this printing circles. Product designers are being seen to have a shift towards font faces that are not only elegant but easy on the eye in terms of reading. The font type should also be regarded as ink efficient for it to be acceptable to use especially in packaging and promotional material.

Digital printing is a relatively new concept. However it has taken pace and is turning heads as it is continuously and being progressively adopted by individuals and companies alike. This simple concept which started only as a trend by environmentally conscious people has developed from a simple fad to a concept relied on by marketers to brand their products as Green.

The Power of Storytelling to create engaging written and verbal communication (2 day)
- Equip with powerful storytelling techniques to engage audience effectively

The Problem

YouTube, iTunes, candy crush and several smart apps are increasingly taking a heavy toll on today's professionals. These apps distract, dilute and undermine organizational communication. As result, we are living increasingly in an attention-deficit economy. It is becoming a very costly crisis!
Some suffer from information overload, others from information distress. Fewer people are fully engaged. Attention spans are dwindling away. You can't tell if your message will be well received or not. This is tragedy for managers and leaders who must get across critical organisational messages. We need a solution!

Potential Solution

A well-told story is one of the most effective ways to engage an audience. It could be an anecdote, a metaphor or a figure of speech that captures someone's imagination. Stories are very effective in conveying meaning and reducing complexity because they are capable of capturing our undivided emotional attention.

Marketers and politicians leverage the power of story telling to persuade us everyday. What if organisations can attempt to use this well-proven tool of social communication better? What if you can use it to better inform, influence and inspire? This could radically redefine your career and how you empower with your team.

Still Missing Amidst Reports Of Malaysia Airlines Plane Found

By Stacey Burt

March of this year, we have heard what could be considered as the most mysterious disappearance in the history of Malaysian airlines. One of its planes, MH370 which was carrying 239 passengers on it suddenly went missing on its trip to Beijing Capital International Airport. The weather was fine and the condition of the plane was said to be at best.

The alarm was raised when the plane suddenly lost its contact to the base. The personnel tried to contact the pilot but are not able to get through. The search for it then commenced. The Malaysian government started out searching around the route of the aircraft, hoping to see any signs of it. Any possibilities are open. And while there are some who claim that Malaysia airlines plane found, the authorities are clear on saying that such information is not true, adding that they are still searching for it. When no progress was made even after weeks of searching by different groups around the world, theories start to arise.

The aircraft was shot. This has something to do with the theory about Taiwans and US doing some sort of joint military training along the South China sea. They are said to be using live fires on their training on ground, seas and air. One participant might have shot it down accidentally.

Second is the theory of hijacking. With the historical bombing that happened in the World Trade center, it is easy to accuse this even as another form of hijacking. It was said that hijackers may have taken control of the vehicle and have been holding them to use them during the commemoration of the nine eleven bombing.

Third is about MH370 hiding behind a plane. At that time, another aircraft, the Singaporean Airlines flight 68 is flying through the India and Afghan airspace. Experts say that one reason why the missing aircraft was not detected is because it hid behind the other one. Therefore, the one that the radar will recognize is only that of the Singaporean vehicle. They say this is possible but the two has to be 3,300 feet of each other.

Fourth is the alien abduction. There are some who immediately ward off the idea. But netizens has been quick on riding the theories considering the negative outcome that the biggest search operation has done. Jordy the Snowman in twitter says that the only explanation for this is aliens.

Island landing. And then there is the hopeful but controversial theory that states how it might have landed on an island named Diego Garcia. This is owned by a British and is said to be have been housing a big military base of the United States. People around the world quick pick this up resulting to US issuing a statement how impossible this is considering that the aircraft was nowhere near the island.

A secret weapon is at work. Apart from politics and extraterrestrial theories comes a more advanced, scientific theory that opens the possibility of a secret weapon being the one responsible for the disappearance. When no one seem to be able to explain what happened, something made of superior technology like a weapon must have been involved.

These, of course, are all theories. Investigations are still going on. We may never know what really happened to MH370. What we can do is to pray for the passengers and their families, that may they find closure in this tragic and mysterious event.
