1 day Presentational Skills & Storytelling Techniques
- Start embracing storytelling to engage, influence, and bring your ideas to life

Introduction

Influential people are confident, confident people engage, and stories help to engage others at deep, emotional levels.

Therefore, using storytelling when presenting enables you to present messages in much more compelling, memorable, and influential ways. Telling people your story is powerful.

But, the very thought of you standing up in front of others to present probably causes fear to course through your veins, yes? It does for most people, doesn't it?

To an extent, some of those fears are unfounded, as only a few presentations are formal affairs, with large audiences.

For most of the time, presenting is "routine" and less formal, e.g. giving a project team report, updating status at weekly meetings, sharing during a small, impromptu gathering.

Yet these are all ideal opportunities to influence, aren't they?

Though your fears may feel real, with a renewed mind set, and an injection of a few skills, those fears can be replaced by a new-found faith and confidence in your capabilities. That is what this Workshop intends to do.

This Workshop therefore takes an emotionally intelligent approach to presenting. Our focus replaces those fears with understanding, introduces you to storytelling, and blends in a little technique with considerable safe, enjoyable practice.

You'll start building confidence and developing the skills to stand in front of any audience, connect with them, tell your story, get the desired message across, and, be influential.

Workshop Objectives

Our intentions are to boost your ability to feel, look, and sound confident when presenting material in smaller group settings. We'll adopt a storytelling approach, so you can use presentation times as relaxed moments to Influence others.

You'll use the skills to engage emotionally, and bring your ideas to life. You'll also come to realise that skills developed for small, impromptu, presentational settings, are also valid for more formal presentations.

Emotional intelligence or EQ sits well at the heart of this soft skills Workshop, as you move the focus of your energies from yourself, to your audience.

Workshop Outlines

  • Creating an internal feeling of assurance
  • Engaging your audience by embracing stories
  • Projecting an external appearance of composure

Facilitation Approach for Learning

Your Workshop Facilitator: Mr. Patrick O'Brien, CMgr

With a constant appetite for change, Patrick came to realise one very important thing: it's the People that matter in business, personal development and growth counts. His learning delivery approach therefore focuses on building those important soft skills. Training thus scaffolds atop three firm foundations.

First, for learning to stick, it needs to be fun; enjoyment & engagement are precursors to absorption & adoption. Next, for learning to be relevant, it has to be real; it needs collaboration, openness, and a little intensity. Finally, for learning to be desirable, it must match expectations; it has to substantially deliver what it says "on the tin".

Patrick therefore designs Workshop experiences that masterfully combine Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) with a deep Coaching mentality. Both are invitingly interlaced using Improvisational techniques. His diverse background and experience also allow him to facilitate inclusive and valuable learning moments. These are highly engaging, empowering, and, enjoyable.

His life's journey has straddled different countries and cultures in Ireland, England, New Zealand and Singapore. He has worked his way through a variety roles, from individual contributor to Managing Director, in the corporate world. And, he has built considerable business experience along the way in working across sectors such as government, technology, manufacturing, finance, consulting, aviation, telecommunications and the Internet.

His formal education is well rounded: Honours in IT, Masters in Marketing and MBA in Finance. He is also a "Master Practitioner" of NLP, and an enthusiastic author with Articles regularly appearing in the local media. In whatever form you experience his work, you'll always feel his curiously cheerful sense of enjoyment; it shines through.

Patrick is an active member of many international Professional bodies, such as the Chartered Management Institute, the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Institute of Directors. He is proud to be one of only a small handful of "Chartered Managers" in Asia.

With a warm Irish wit, a love of the "craic" and a big beaming smile, audiences in over twenty-five countries have found his disarmingly unpretentious and conversational approach to learning, to be refreshing and rewarding experiences.

Tips On How To Write A Novel

By Andrew Richardson

Writing a book is not an easy thing. Writers need to be committed, passionate, and creative to successfully make a novel. Good novels often show a great reality and allow readers to find the truth in the world that is fabricated. So, regardless of what type of novels you will be writing, either romance or horror, you need to have a boundless creativity in making your outline, revise, and edit them as much as possible.

If writing is your passion, why not turn that into a lucrative passion. This is actually a good idea since a lot of writers today are selling thousands of copies of their books. If you plan to make it possible, then make sure that you written the best story for your readers. In order to do that, here are some tips on how to write a novel.

It is better to carry a notebook with you whenever you go because ideas may come out no matter you do. Thus, even if you are commuting, or working, ideas might come out. It is actually true that you will never know when your ideas come out. Thus, just be prepared. Being a good writer also need you to get an inspiration. Sometimes, writers find it difficult to produce better ideas if they are not inspired. Thus, an inspiration really plays a role in your writings.

The genre of stories also needs to be planned carefully. Basically, not all novels fit a certain category. In choosing a genre, you should also think about your audience as you begin planning the outline. You can also find some major works that may fall into a chosen genre and try to understand it including the construction of these stories as well as the standards of a story.

Once you decide to which genre to write within, plan about the setting of your story. You should not focus to only one setting only and start dreaming big. The setting you are thinking will actually identify the mode and tone of the story which could affect the problems that your characters encounter. You also need to think about questions as you outline the book.

A novel is incomplete without characters, thus, you have to create your characters. The protagonist plays an important role in your novel who should possess all the personality traits and patterns. Actually, protagonists do not have to be likable, but they should be able to be related to something else in a way that readers will stay interested.

Visualizing the plot would be the next step to consider. A lot of novels, no matter what the genres are having some sort of conflicts and disputes. Tension and problem build until the issue comes to a climax and the it is resolved in different ways. It does not mean that novels should end happily like fairytale stories. It is more giving motivations for each character while making a meaning of the story.

To create a great outline, it is better to read different books specifically ones relevant to the genre you write. This is important during and after you have made the book. Always remember that characters with similar and different traits must be compared with each other.

When you write a book, a writer should not feel sensitive when getting feedback. In fact, this is helpful to revise or change anything to the story. But in this matter, you should not change everything directly just to please them. Just think it as a betterment for your book.

Understanding Writing Missteps In Island Christian School

By David Kellan

Island Christian school studies contain a litany of vital factors, some more noticeable than others. Writing might be one of the most important, which makes sense given the fact that it's needed for coursework to be completed. While it's entirely possible to become a good writer with some work, there are certain missteps that can be made along way. By avoiding the following missteps, your skill in this field will become that much sharper.

For those who would like to know about the most common writing missteps, the omission of drafts is nothing short of urgent. After all, skilled writers tend to construct one or two drafts ahead of time, which makes sense given the fact that these can detail strong points, weaknesses, and everything in between. Names the likes of Island Christian Church can say the same. However, this is just one of many points that you'll learn about in Island Christian school.

Up-and-coming writers might also overlook the importance of fact checking, which a fishbat Long Island marketing company can attest to the common nature of. It's needed to determine just how accurate certain details are, meaning that this method should go without saying. With that said, it's very easy to overlook this, especially when deadlines are in place. Instead of relying on a single source, make it a point to look into a number of different outlets.

Finally, no writer should complete their work without summarizing what they have previously written. An introduction is meant to cite some of the topics that a paper will cover, while the conclusion will put everything together in a concise summary. When you forget the latter, it's likely that you will not achieve the grade that you would like. Even though creating the perfect conclusion can prove to be troublesome, the effort will be worthwhile.

By understanding the points discussed earlier, your skill in writing will become that much greater. There's no denying the fact that becoming a good writer takes time, meaning that you have to be willing to put in the effort as well. You might have to make adjustments from time to time, so that you don't make the same mistakes others have. However, by exercising this level of care, the likelihood of you becoming a better student will become greater.

Easy Rules To Follow On How To Write A Novel

By Steven Snyder

Having your own hobby and activity that you do for your past time could be very helpful in relieving stress and making sure you do get the break you deserve. Too many times have you heard that people loved reading and learning about certain types of stories. And more often than not, these instances are what inspires people to pen down something of their own. This is how it usually starts for writers. Getting the right inspiration could take your imagination to far places.

If you have discovered long ago that this is actually what you want to do, then you should start looking into your other options such as what you want to write and how you want to do it. Some prefer to go for books of guidance and things based on their experiences while others are more inclined to creating novels. If this is what you desire, then you should start learning how to write a novel and master it quickly.

Before you get into the specifics of what you will write, you need to first understand what it means to be a writer. Knowing these things will help you appreciate what you are doing more. Aside from that, if you ever feel like you have to give up without finishing the entire story, knowing several facts such as benefits of expressing yourself through words can help you go through it and finish it all.

Just like any other work of art, you get to express thoughts and things easily. Although you get to create another world if you desire to. And whatever you have done and whatever you feel will be more detailed and many others will relate to this since they can easily understand what you are trying to say.

Experiences are what makes you learn a lot. And despite this, it is also what makes people human. Such emotions are necessary when writing because it would be impossible to just write things that are good natured and happy. This would not make it real. It has become necessary to make sure that everything is real and others could connect to it.

Learning about certain pointers could be very necessary particularly when you are trying to pen something as long as a novel. The main rule is to write from one topic. And if this is followed, it should be something that you are highly excited in knowing about. This will help in making sure that you are not bored with your topic and you will keep exploring it.

There must be a good point for struggle. Problems and conflicts are what make a good story. In fact, most of the time, plots revolve around these things. It must have meaning and sense. And most importantly, it should be compelling and challenging at the same time to make readers think and take their sides.

There is no need for you to start in large stories or jumping immediately to novels. You need to get used to the idea of writing constantly first. Start small such as short stories. There are now different sites that allow you to publish original stories for your practice.

Whatever comes to mind, write it. Organize it later. Do not start with indecision and procrastination because it would not get you anywhere. It would just let you push back things until you do not feel the fire to write anymore.
