1 Day Art of Mentoring - Developing People & Teams for High Performance

Introduction

Why do organizations implement formal mentoring programs?

Organizations recognize that workforce demographics have changed dramatically in recent years, as women and members of different minority groups have joined the workforce in greater numbers. In addition, technology has automated traditional employee functions and continues to affect on-the-job performance, altering the way people see themselves within the corporate structure. With these changes, organizations are finding it difficult to recruit and retain qualified personnel. On the plus side, organizations find today's employees exhibit a more flexible approach to work. On the minus side, employees may feel less loyalty to the organizations for which they work. Organizations now look to mentoring to implement a strategic game plan that includes:

  • Recruitment
  • Retention
  • Professional development
  • Development of a multicultural workforce

The manager-employee relationship focuses on achieving the objectives of the department and the company. A mentor-mentee relationship focuses on developing the mentee professionally and personally. The roles of manager and mentor are fundamentally different. That's why structured mentoring programs never pair mentors with their direct reports. True mentoring is more than just answering occasional questions or providing ad hoc help. It is about an ongoing relationship of learning, dialogue, and challenge. "Mentoring" is a process that always involves communication and is relationship based upon mutual trust and respect.

Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be; it plays a key role in developing one's career. Learning To Forgive

By Evan Sanders

In all real things, there's truly some madness.

Without a little bit of madness your life is going to lack depth. Without depth, you're going to feel disconnected from what you could truly be. When you find yourself disconnected, you end up being lost.

I think you're starting to get the idea.

The amazing thing about life is what happens when you find people to surround yourself with who believe in you, support you, encourage you, and help you become the best version of yourself you can possibly be. These people will bring the best out in you and be there for you through the thick and the thin.

If you happen to come across people who believe in the beauty of your dreams, hold onto them as long as you can because they don't come along that often. Those confidants are people who believe in what you are capable of and see you for what you could be, not just as the person you are now.

It's truly rare to have a handful of honest and loving people who legitimately support you in your endeavors. These people whisper words of belief into your heart like no one else can and make you feel like whatever you are dreaming of is actually possible. These people see you as "perfectly imperfect" and drive wisdom and determination into the cracks of your soul.

While having amazing people in your life is crucial towards your happiness and success, there's another aspect of life that you must dive into as well. Forgiveness.

Learn to forgive people.

Many miracles can be found in the world of forgiveness. It's inevitable that people are going to make mistakes in this world, but when you really stop to take a look at how complicated we all are, is it really much of a surprise? Making mistakes is just part of living.

Forgive them anyway.

Life isn't a black and white movie. Knowing this, it's a miracle that we even get along in the first place. Mistakes happen over and over again and it's a natural part of life. Sure some are going to hurt more than others, but we get to make the decision to give ourselves and another a gift of healing instead of living in pain.

Deep inside of you, no matter what the situation was, you have the ability to forgive another and move forward. When you forgive someone, you set both of your worlds free.

That's where miracles happen.

That's when miracles happen.

1 day The Powerful Emotions: Passion and Anger
- Use your emotions to fuel performance and success

Introduction

It was not too long ago that emotions had no place in the business world. They were seen as a total waste of time and unproductive. Boy, how things have changed. Today, inspiring emotions is a critical part of any entrepreneur's business repertoire.

Powerful leaders know very well that emotions are vital to success. Emotions in fact are the driving force to higher performance, better productivity in business. It is one thing to understand how to control emotional stress as it can prevent your effectiveness on the job, but another to use emotions to drive influence internally and externally.

Much has been written and said about anger, frustration and aggression, but before we 'judge' our so-called negative emotions we need to hear what they have of value for us.

Anger and passion, for example, are interconnected. And anger has a lot to do with motivation and self- awareness. Passion might not be always positive. Both are most complex and confusing feelings, and many are not aware they go hand-in-hand. Many people have negative views of anger overall, but in reality, anger can be both: empowering and disempowering. Just like passion.

This hands-on workshop will lead participants to understand and experience the underlying power of these two emotions as well as dispel the common myths about the causes and uses of anger and passion in life and at work, and how by recognizing and understanding, integrating them in our life and work we can achieve success and improve performance.

Course Objectives

  • Learning the underlying roots of these emotions and how they can be a source of happiness or stress and conflict
  • Building a new belief system around these two powerful emotions which sustain us in new behaviours
  • Becoming aware of the different types of anger and passion
  • Learning the connection between anger and passion
  • Gaining the ability to recognize your own type of anger and make positive use of it
  • Learning powerful and practical anger and passion management techniques to fuel better performance and results at work and in life

Course Outline

  • Emotions at work
  • The Anatomy of Anger
  • The Anatomy of Passion
  • The anger-passion connection
  • What is the purpose of anger
  • Is anger only in others
  • What is my type of anger
  • What exactly is anger management
  • Anger as a secondary emotion
