How to Write Awesome Persuasive Essays

By Sandra Carter

Everybody has something they want to convince somebody else to do. A persuasive essay is designed to persuade the reader to do or not to do something. Persuasive essay topics may range all the way from convincing the reader to watch a great television show to convincing the reader not to smoke cigarettes.

A powerful convincing essay will be at least five paragraphs with the first paragraph hooking the reader to resume on. The first sentence should actually grab the reader's attention with a robust statement. It might be a debatable sentence or an interesting fact. The writer should briefly list the debates that'll be touched upon later in the last sentence, also known as the thesis statement.

The body of the persuasive essay should ideally consist of at least 3 paragraphs, each covering one opposing statement. The strongest statements should be put first. The 1st sentence of every paragraph should give an opposing statement to persuade the reader. At least three more sentences should follow to support the argument with facts. The final paragraph before the conclusion should bring up a counterpoint that a contestant may have. Address the counterpoint with reasoning in favor of the essay's topic. This way the opposing point of view will be addressed before the reader even gets a chance to consider it.

The conclusion of the essay should restate every one of the main arguments. Do not forget to finish the essay with a final thought that leaves an enduring impression on the reader. It should be a unforgettable point or possibly a zinger that may get the reader thinking.

One of the best ways to write a great persuasive essay is to brainstorm and plan out the best way to write about each statement. Each sentence must have support. Also, do not forget to proofread! Use spell check on the PC and read it out loud to make certain words haven't been confused. Ensure that the paper is appropriate for the readers too.

There are many great persuasive essay topics to select from. The writer might decide to persuade someone why vanilla ice cream is much better than chocolate, why cats are much better than dogs, why teachers should be paid more or why the reader should do the writer's homework.
