"Poor Leaders rarely ask questions of themselves or others. Good leaders, on the other hand, ask many questions. Great leaders ask the questions".
Michael Marquardt | | | Introduction | | All of us have experienced and suffered the consequences of expensive unasked questions both in our professional lives and our personal lives. As communicators, no matter if leaders of managers, we have the responsibility to ask relevant questions to elicit information, but many of us do not know the art or science of questioning and just rely on instinct or modeling on what we have heard and seen. Add to that that the natural reticence or lack of self- confidence of some communicators, and it's no wonder that we walk away meetings, interviews or common encounters whishing we had remembered to ask X, Y or even XY all together. Questioning is like listening a communication skills of major importance and unfortunately underutilized. The ability to add to your communication the 'great or right questions" is therefore essential for seeking clarity and improving personal effectiveness and emotional wellbeing. Peter Duckers says: "Leaders of the past knew how to tell. The leader of the future will know how to ask". SO...Why You'd Better Care? - Because questions open the door to dialogue, discovery and creativity.
- Because when you ask the right question, you'll get the information you need and when you get the information you need, you will save time, energy and very often money as well.
- Because questions can lead to being pro-active on key issues at work and in life.
- Because questions are the fuel to action and change
