Sustainable Digital Printing At A Brief

By Kristen Baird

Over years, printing practices have changed from being those of fashion buzzword to being life facts. Most clients today expect and demand for sustainable digital printing choices that range from biodegradable to recyclable stocks. A recent survey showed that many consumers were interested in purchasing and using those products and services that were environmentally friendly in nature.

On a fair ground, the print industry is also characterized by various drawbacks. An estimated 45 trillion and more pages are printed annually. From this mega prints, only a third of the total is consumed owing to their higher rating of becoming obsolete thus making them irrelevant. Printing exciting and emotional, stunning and smart and on top of it all making the materials to matter is way that can be used to solve the situation so as to protect the environment.

Being sustainable simply means that one works in a manner that will yield the successes of today while also eliminating problems that may arise in the future. Sustainable printing puts into consideration the aspects of the process of design and printing rather than typically opting for the soy inks and recycled papers. It may involve how your project is designed, location of vendors and resources, energy consumed and the daily running of business activities.

As you make plans and designs of your print materials, the following tips can be useful: Make sure you pick on materials that are biodegradable, recyclable and renewable. Despite it being an obvious tip, making sure you do not lose sight of the role acted by your project materials is important. Vegetable based inks are normally heavy metal free, have low post-consumer waste and are produced in conditions that are safe and sound.

The size and weight issue. Ensure that you reduce on the amounts of paper and extra materials that get used through designing pieces which are smaller. It is very much possible to save significant amount of inputs without necessarily comprising the integrity of the output. Lightweight products are also known to cut down on carbon emissions in addition to making shipping costs more efficient.

Re-packaging the packaging. It is prudent to consider options for packaging which can be transformed into various different uses that are functional and interesting. An example to this is in a situation where a firm dealing in baby stroller can add a printed guideline in every box providing instructions on how one can turn the packaging into various items such as bulb holder or chairs.

Making it modular. This is a process of making custom solutions with materials that are prefabricated or standardized. These modular designs boast of not only being easier to recycle but they also get easier in updating and repairing making them have longer shelf life. Manufacturing and shipping them is also more efficient thus reducing their consumption of energy throughout their life cycle.

Been keen on the type. While printing, it is wise idea to not only put the ink factor into consideration but also the choice to select on font. Fonts which are way too easier to read and stylish plus being ink-efficient compared to others are very readily available.
