5 Steps To Getting Better Printing

By Roger Lechleidner

Ink Versus Toner: Which Is Better?

While ink is what everyone refers to when they talk about printing, both ink and toner are needed for a proper print job. While it is a common misconception that ink and toner are the same thing, it is just that: a misconception. In fact, ink and toner cartridges are really only similar in the way they are structured, and not in the way that they work in your printer. Physically, there are not very many obvious differences between the design of toner cartridges and ink cartridges, but there are some subtle differences.

Generally, two different colored cartridges are placed inside of a printer, one being colored, and the other being plain black ink. One reason toner cartridges may seem so similar to ink cartridges is that they are used in almost the same way, and look very similar. Instead of physically, the difference between the two is what they have inside of them, with toner containing powder and ink containing plain wet ink. Still, they are both placed in the printer in the same way, and they both can print on the paper using the same printing mechanism. One last similarity is that they are both considered to be environmentally friendly.

It is actually not that hard to figure out the difference, for their very name can tell you. A toner cartridge contains the powdery substance of toner, while an ink cartridge has wet ink inside of it. Now you know why you would not be able to use a toner cartridge in an inkjet printer, when it actually belongs in a laser printer. A printer that was designed to burn toner powder onto paper will not be able to spray ink onto paper.

It is up to you to decide which type of cartridge would be the best option for you. If you want the best quality printing, you should go with a laser printer, even though it is a little more expensive than inkjet printers. If you are simply looking to find a usable printer for your household, then an ink printer would probably suit you better, and save you money. One way to save money on printing is to buy a refilled ink or toner cartridge, which most local retailers sell.

Generally, laser printers are larger and more expensive than inkjet printers. One way that ink cartridges are interesting is how there are so many different varieties of them, meant for different purposes to suit all of your needs, from photographs to posters. But unlike laser toner printers, inkjet printers do not create the same type of quality print. The difference in quality is produced by inkjet printers having a more runny wet ink, compared to laser printers using a mechanism to burn the ink onto the paper. Whether you choose an inkjet printer or a laser printer, you will have a good printer to do your printing with.
