When explaining to others how to self publish a book, an individual has a number of options. These include, creating, editing and binding. Although, there are also ways to create, edit and publish through a printing service. Of course, the latter is often far more expensive as there are generally fees associated with each one produced. So, whether self publishing, dropping off at a printing service or submitting to a publisher, it is important to consider any fees associated with publication.

Whichever the case, it is extremely important to edit, proof and have second pair of eyes review the cover and text for any grammatical or spelling errors. So, to assure having the best copy possible, it is always best to have an editor review the material before and after finalizing the publication. After which, the individual need review these changes before self publishing, dropping off at a printing service or publishing house.

It is also important to create an eye-catching cover with the title formatted in bold. As the cover often reflects the internal being of the publication, it is important to use a design which says something about the story. This is because the cover is the first thing one sees whether in a local store or online shopping website. So, the bigger, the brighter or darker, the better.

It is also important to consider the size, style and scope of the publication. For example, there are often preset templates which reflect either small, medium or large ones. In addition, it is important that the title be highlighted against any type of picturesque background on the cover.

Creating an e-book for online distribution is another in which an individual can self publish. When formatting, the same recommendations apply as to hard copy publishing. However, unlike hard copy publishing in which there is often a great deal of money required up front, many e-book publishers pay the individual after taking out a small percentage fee. In addition, while not a professional copy, individuals often have the capability of printing out an e-book at home and taking it on the road, the same as a hard copy or paperback.

So, regardless of the type of publication being published for distribution, unless one has a distribution list or can have the publication placed in local and online stores, success can often be futile. Whereas, when an individual can explore as many different markets as possible, one is most likely has a better chance of success.

In addition, as with any publication, it is important to proofread the entire text before submitting to a copy house, printing service or publisher. Actually, most individuals find it beneficial to obtain the assistance of an editor whom can correct any grammatical and spelling errors before creating the final cut. If not, then the individual may only pay to have the publication copied or produced to discover there were a number of different types of errors where were overlooked.

Then, after the individual learns how to self publish a book, all that is left is to market and sell the publication whether as a hard copy, paperback or an online version. It is also during this time when it is most appropriate to set up a book tour, book signings, release parties or other associated events. Last but not least, it is important to know the cost of publishing in order to sell the book for enough to meet costs and make a small profit.
