What Should Be Read In Anti Hero Novels

By Frances Olson

In the past, most films and novels contain the charisma of a hero and a villain. But of late, people have created a character known as an anti-hero. This is a gritty, dark and moody hero. You hate to love them, and you love to hate them. Compared to the all good character and the villain, people are more likely to enjoy an anti-hero novel. The novel discusses what is expected in anti hero novels.

As a writer, you should make the character dynamic. This means that you should not lean too much on only one side rather you should consider all manner of writing. For example, if the character is always in dull colors, they will appear as more of a villain than a hero. The personality should come off as deeply rooted. This will be able to support why they are at the time good and at times bad.

Unlike a hero or villain, an anti-hero is human. A villain is a pure evil while a hero is all good. An anti-hero, however, is more relatable to the readers as they have the characteristics of a flawed human being. They are able to be angry, cowardly, greedy, charitable, noble among many other traits. As a person reads, they will be able to put themselves in such situations.

They should have a secret vulnerability. This must be apart from that one person who has an effect on them that makes them seem like normal people. This vulnerability should be kept secret such that if it is ever revealed, it will devastate the charisma in question. However, you should have a counter action that can come into play in case the vulnerability is exposed.

The anti-hero must be selfish. This means that for every action they take, their aim ought to be achieving their personal goals. If something good comes about as a result of their actions, it will just be a by the way and would have happened quite unintentionally. This simply means the character should not care how their actions affect other people.

Your character should have a back story that molded them into how they turned out to be. In most cases, the event leading up to the outcome of this character is usually in the past. Something happened to them in the past, and they are willing to do anything to have revenge or to solve the mystery hanging over their heads.

The anti-hero should not have any respect for the law that governs other people. They should have an unnatural desire to achieve whatever they set out to do. They, however, a code of honor of their own that they cannot break. This means that they would never compromise their values in order to accommodate the needs of other people.

A good anti-hero should be able to bring different reactions from the reader. The reader should not always be against or in support of the character. This is because they are half of both and cannot always be good or bad.
