The presence of bugs at home make people worried they because most people associate pests with filth. A bed bug is usually a brownish red insect which feeds on both animal and human blood. Having the knowledge of their physical appearance will help you make out whether an insect is a bug or not.

Their excretions are an indication of their presence. Mostly, these insects will usually defecate on their feeding areas. Using a torch light and a magnifying glass to check for feces in their hideouts will give you signs of their presence. Also if you can smell a reek of odor emanating from the area you suspect to be hideouts will make you tell whether or not they are present.

Like other insects these bugs mate, reproduce and peel off their outer shell. After mating, they produce a lot of eggs and shell. If you can find these, then you can conclude that you might be dealing with an infestation. Another sign of their presence are red or dark spots that may appear spread on the sheet. This indicates you might have killed them by rolling on the while sleeping.

The headboard and the spring box are not primarily feeding grounds for bugs. However, it is important to check under these areas because it is here that they live, retreat after feeding and reproduce. The cracks in these areas offer them a safe haven. Therefore, it is significant that you examine the seams in the bed frame for any immature offspring.

The clutter of items around your bed may be hiding places bugs. It is of importance that you open each book, flip its pages so you can check the inside. Other areas they may be hiding include; electric sockets, the light stand among others. You are supposed to check beneath the radio and telephone. To expand you area of coverage, you can also check the joints of the wooden light stand using a glass lens and a torch.

Carpets and other flooring materials may offer hidden areas that one may not think bugs would exist. Hence, carefully remove the carpet in areas where it meets the room edges. To be able to do this with ease, use a flash light and a magnifying glass so you are able to see them clearly. While working on these areas, make sure that you look for them in areas where the wall frames meets the floor.

Bedbugs are nocturnal creatures. This means that they are active at night when they feed on your blood without you even knowing. Their bites are often mistaken to be mosquito bites, but are different. Hence, when you wake up, inspect the parts of the body that are usually exposed while you sleep. These bites are painless but if you notice that the pain is persisting, it is advisable to call an exterminator.
