Largest Cities - Choose One for Your Research Paper

By Sandra Carter

Largest cities and urban development is a great research topic for people that love history and architecture. There's so much material you can take on this subject any way you need. As an example, you can talk of the increase and fall of your favourite city. If you like more barbarous undertones, talk about the ancient uses of torture and imprisonment - completely unique to a city's culture. If you still need additional research topic ideas, then check out the link for some unique ideas. However, to get you going look at these cool ideas which will make you feel as if you want to start to write straight away!

1) The Traditional City vs the Modern City: This subject is great for cities that are thousands of years old like Egypt, Rome or Athens. Explore the explanations why this city was the focus for a traditional culture. If you love ancient history, then this is the subject for you!

2) Urban Waste: There are so many abandoned towns and theme parks that are not even ten years in age. Do a quick online search and you'll see an abundance of these cities in Asian states like Japan or China. Discuss how a culture could end up with new cities that are not even inhabited.

3) The West against the East: Pick two cities- one from every side of the globe. A major Western influence vs and Eastern domination will do the job. Then compare and contrast how each city works.

4) Underground Worlds: Many cities, like Paris, have underground tunnels that go for ages. Some parts are accessible only to those who know where to enter. Do your research and discover why and how they exist.

5) City States: For a very cool subject, pick cities that are also little counties like Monaco or the Vatican. Discuss how this is possible and why no one has attacked them in years. How is this even possible in the modern world?

To conclude, there are many ways you could take this and turn it into other cool research topic ideas. You could focus on architecture or the major principles found in the city. The nicest thing is to pick a subject you actually love and expand on that. This way you'll be able to write freely and easily.
