While Copywriting Seems Easy, It Requires Strong Communication

By Margaret Moore

The new commerce relies heavily on content as a way to engage and create direct sales. Those who are new to an industry will see how big of a role the internet can play as a primary source of transactions. Even those with small local operations may find that social media is a nice tool to add to their marketing mix, even if they do not use the internet to make sales. Since this task has to be ongoing in order to be effective, using a copywriting service can pay off in a big way.

Although many feel they have the ability to write good copy, some may say this is the same as being a jingle writer. Both have great similarities and there are some copywriters who have experience creating short, memorable songs, there are some great differences. When words are put to music, the lyrics have to be simple but deliver a message that can be heard in a matter of seconds.

Depending on the purpose, such as a new product launch or reorganization announcement, it is best to get someone who is familiar with a particular industry. They can provide insight or ask questions typical of the ideal demographic. Someone who is considered a specialist will also have a list of available resources they can consult when they are seeking data or something that may benefit an ad campaign.

For companies not ready to make this type of investment, a generalist may serve an essential purpose. Often this is someone who is a new copywriter or comfortable writing for a wide number of industries or topics of consumer interest. While rates may be lower than that of a specialist and turnaround may be faster, there may be a compromise or two.

Different styles of writing can also be used to drive sales or at least engage audiences. While rhyming may be catchy, it has to fit the brand and suit the purpose of the ad. Other ideas may reference customer behaviors like saving money or having impeccable style. Slogans and taglines may use anything from alliteration to metaphors to create a fantastic ad.

A good headline may suggest a diet plan that works for busy people or a safer way to lose weight fast. Most adults know that in most cases, weight can be lost in a reasonable amount of time. However, when something provides convenience or will expedite a process, many working adults will not care how much it costs.

This learning experience can also help new copywriters or generalists transition into specialties that are in high demand. These include, but are not limited to food, health care, real estate, and technology. After building a solid clientele list, they will feel confident about demanding standard rates. Writers who fail to capitalize on their experience either lack business acumen or have a longer turnaround time because they have taken in more work than they can handle by themselves.

This is why many prefer to use someone who enjoys writing and has a great understanding of marketing. Having a gift and the passion for the process comes in handy when other business matters come into play. In many cases, using a freelancer or person under contract is a lot more effective than having a person that may become distracted.
