All About Classic Poetry Readings

By Rebecca Perry

Poetry is the quintessential balm to soothe any troubled soul. All the more when its read aloud with musical reverberations and soulful intent. Anyway, you might like to join these classic poetry readings Los Angeles.

We have all heard it said somewhere that poetry is food for the soul. That one is an aphorism, a universal truth. Those who claim to have nothing to do with poetry just havent founded the perfect poem for them.

Wherever you are coming from, literally and figuratively, there is a beautifully worded prose out there somewhere who skates along flowery language and spewing off thoughts and inner feelings as if they know you inside out. Poems are essentially literary pieces that hold up a mirror to you, and in the process, give you a free rein to reexamine yourself.

Reading can be dispassionate, as well. One can read a text of utmost emotionality with a straight poker face. You will also not be able to put a rein on yourself, especially when you are an innate speed reader.

Poetry is something that skates over many disciplines. Through it, one can effectively read, understand, and make one want to write any text. Just by opening the floodgates of your thoughts through poetry, you are healthily plugging out the deluge of surging emotions.

In a completely separate plane, you have William Wordsworths Daffodils. With its wonderfully worded prose, it brings words to the feelings of nature lovers everywhere. With successful imagery, it brings to mind the paradisiacal views of a sea of natural wonders, and the whimsicality we feel for them afterward.

Take another classic example from Edgar Allan Poes Alone. Introverts the whole world over may be able to get some takeaway from this. With just a tad bit dark imagery, it brings home the gulf between different individuals. Everyone has different joys, sorrows, woes, and they all draw their feelings and sentiments from different founts of spring. However, not really everybody understands the meaning of the last few lines, including Yours Truly. Anyway, when you take part in a poetry reading session with all your like minded friends, you might be able to dissert on that, afterward.

Therefore, this endeavor is something that may be essentially tagged as a Vocal Art. Contrast that with reading, which, when the circumstances are not optimal, it will always be a sedentary experience. However, with oral readings, and regardless of everything else, both the reader and listener get to bring their experience, awareness, thoughts, and emotions on the table.

The so called poets voice is important here. Since considerable changes in intonation, pitch, stress, and some such can bring a whole new sensibility and meaning, or nonsensicality and meaninglessness. Therefore, it is as much a skill as anything else. One has to familiarize himself or herself with the poems elements, and at least glean a certain confidence that they have gleaned the correct and standard message of the poem.
