Legend, Myth And Secret Of The Holy Grail

By Raymond Morris

Sacred cups and chalices have a number of different uses. In one case, the secret of the holy grail refers to a sacred chalice which has often been believed to have caught the blood of Jesus as he died on the cross. While this is the case, this is only one legend related to the chalice which many have searched for since the time of the crucifixion.

Most commonly believed to be the goblet which caught the blood of Jesus, new research has led some to believe the grail is not a cup at all. Rather, an ancient document which holds writings, including the original gospels as penned by Jesus. Whereas, as early as the 1940s, the Germans and Northern Europeans came to believe it to be a secret symbol associated with Hitler and the Nazi party.

New and different legends are now forming based on relics and research which have recently been discovered. Scientists, theologians and authors all agree that the grail could actually be something other than a chalice. While some believe it to be the cup which held the blood of Jesus, others believe it to be an ancient document or scroll.

In the case of a chalice, the cup holds a connection to the Egyptian bloodline from which Jesus was descended. If found and there were enough remnants, scientist suggest DNA could potentially be found. Otherwise, the legacy of the cup will most likely remain a legend, even if it remains nothing more than a mysterious legacy.

Many films, movies and podcasts have focused on this ancient and missing relic. In fact, the purest history dates back to the time of King Arthur and the knights of the round table. For, King Arthur and the knights met at a round table which held an opening in the center for a chalice. Whereas, it is believed Jesus sat at a similar table with the disciples.

While a number of paintings reflect the last supper as taking place at a rectangular table, it is more likely Jesus sat with the 12 disciples at a round table with the holy grail sitting in a circle which had been cut out for that sole purpose. It is interesting to note that the 12 knights and King Arthur also met at a round table.

With regards to the stories of King Arthur, one of the most unusual analogies to the chalice relates to a princess. For, some of the knights loved to joke about by having a princess with a cloth of green asked the knights if one could see the holy grail. At which time, the culprits would break out in laughter and explain that since the princess was the daughter of the Fisher King and a Holy Hermit, by seeing the princess, one in fact had seen the sacred object.

When it comes to the legend and King Arthur, the knights are there to protect the princess. In many cases, these individuals would also be responsible for protecting sacred objects. While this was the case, if the holy grail is in fact the cup which held the blood of Jesus, it was most likely a disciple whom was given responsibility as caretaker of the sacred object.
