Find Free Podcast Children Stories

By Elena McDowell

Since the explosion of the Internet the number of children's resources from games, activities and books has steadily grown. While a parent and child once lay in cozy chair reading bedtime stories, today the art of story-telling also involves free podcast children stories. Kids are becoming so fascinated and intrigued with podcasts that in some cases they are now taking the place of parents' voices, allowing parents to listen and react with their child, or point at story books, while the audio reads the book.

Podcasts include classical and contemporary readings, and allow a child to experience the world of story-telling by audio, with or without the book. They are available on many websites, and famous music sharing and download sites. They can be downloaded to computers, phones, tablets, and readers for easy storage and listening.

Not only are they great activities for parent and child, but they are also resources teachers regularly use in classrooms. Those with whiteboards can also implement other activities. Most free podcast websites list different categories for easy searching. Most can be found under particular subject matters, authors or certain topics.

Some websites include topics related to morals, holidays, and special events. Some provide fun interactive activities for kids that compliment podcasts, such as poetry activities, questions and answers, how to save a friend, online puzzles, and others. Some offer only a daily reading of a well known book, while others offer the entire download.

Yet others offer podcasts created specifically by the website, with actors taking on voices of characters for a unique fairytale experience. Users tune in once a week to enjoy the new episode, each week with characters experiencing a different storyline. In this way site users are able to enjoy stories on the Internet that aren't available in stores.

Some sites also allow stories in text to be downloaded for those who want to read along. This allows for not only using the audio as a unique form of story telling and entertainment, but also utilizes it as a powerful learning tool. This is especially true if stories are similar to ones used in the school classroom, complimenting what is already being learned.

Podcasts are also used by teachers of English to second language students. Students whose first language may be quite different from English can often listen to podcasts at home, supplementing classroom learning. Most speak very slowly, allowing for repeating words out loud. Some of them also incorporate children's songs at the end, which children love.

Incorporating song and dance with podcasts in a classroom provides not only a fun atmosphere for learning, but works as a memory and retention tool as well. As students are singing songs, day by day they are learning to speak English and build a vocabulary. Not only that, but it teaches students to identify with the story characters, and want to learn more.

Free podcast children stories are almost as beloved as books themselves by young learners. They are also excellent ways for teachers to utilize time, incorporating other activities along with the podcast audio. They act as virtual reading assistants, and create an atmosphere of fun and learning. Other creative activities can now be implemented to create energy, entertainment and learning.
