Electronic Publishing And How Do I Get A Childrens Book Published

By Cecile Ingram

Children are extremely fun to write for. No wonder so many authors are turning to writing books for children. There is nothing more rewarding that seeing ideas, colors and characters jump to life. Nor is there anything more fulfilling than knowing children's faces are lighting up and learning. And while nothing can replace that type of fulfillment, the problem after completing the writing is the daunting task of getting the book published, and leaves many asking how do I get a childrens book published.

For new authors researching the various publishing options will help to reduce confusion, and offer workable publishing options. Today there are more publishing options that ever before. This was not the case in the past. In the past authors were restricted to a traditional publishing houses. If rejected they were forced into sending to other traditional publishers.

Today the publishing market has changed. This is due mainly to the added reluctance of publishing houses to take chances on unknown authors, along with the rapid pace of change within the electronic publishing industry. Many children's authors have simply decided to publish their own works, using the many opportunities available to them through online book sellers. The Internet now offers access to a mass market of readers.

Book sellers now offer independent author pages, and offer consumers quick and easy payment, download and reading options. This was not always the case, but now that booksellers have made buying, and instant access to books so easy and available it has resulted in a publishing boom. With this boom has also come a growing electronic audience, and opportunities for self marketing like never before.

The added benefit to electronic publishing is the intimate type of connection authors can develop with readers. Readers leave reviews, and authors can personally answer their reviews in a way not previously possible. Traditionally, book signings, events and special appearances were the closest thing to this.

With the Internet comes social networking and online groups and clubs. Online booksellers also offer opportunities for authors to connect with readers through their professional author pages. Authors are now able to benefit from constructive criticism, reader opinions and reviews. Reader messages can also be delivered to author cell phones, via online connections. Authors can also establish a professional presence with book release parties, special events and by incorporating the help of other authors.

Sales, contests, and giveaways are all possible with social networking, and online booksellers. The other benefit of self-publishing and self-promotion is the benefit of connecting with other experienced authors, is possible. Networking, personal experiences, and connecting with a body of authors that can offer help and support is extremely important in online publishing.

In the past self publishing authors were restricted into print agreements, wherein a certain number of books were printed, and authors marketed and promoted them to physical bookstores on their own. This is no longer of the same importance as in the past. Print on demand only prints the amount of books sold through online booksellers, and then makes them available for shipping. Self publishing now is a viable option for publishing, reduces the question how do I get a childrens book published, and allows authors the ability for sources of unlimited success.
