Why Jarred Into Being Is A Good Read

By Madeline Finch

Pat Lawrence authored Jarred Into Being. However, one thing you might not notice at first is that actually, Pat and her husband Daniel, who together make up the pseudonym Pat Lawrence, have authored this book. The main character in the book is Eva Lange. At first, the life of this little girl was pleasant. Everything was okay until she turned 13. Her parents considered her a miracle after being childless for four years.

Her parents were well off and her life was somewhat a fairy tale. When she turned 13, something tragic happened. Her parents were involved in a horrific accident where they both perished. This left Eva with only a little trust after all her parents owned was sold off. Her only living relation was her aunt, Loretta, who was, to the mother of Eva, wayward and unreliable.

After the accident, Eva had no choice left but to live with her aunt. This led her to a brand new chapter in her life. The worst of it all is that her life was no longer anything close to a fairy tale. Everything around her began on a downward trend. At school, she used to be an A grade student. This however would change and her grades fell drastically.

She turned truant and was expelled from school for falling into a fight. To make matters worse, her aunt lost her job. She turned to the trust money that belonged to Eva and began supporting herself with it. Her wayward aunt also announced to her that she was pregnant. The father of the child would not stay around to take care of it.

After the child is born, Eva is forced to play mom to the baby of her aunt. This book further goes on being dramatic and horrific at the same time. Her aunt, Loretta, would later on, run off to get away from the mess in her life. Eva remains wholly embroiled in the whole affair, where she has to fend for the baby and herself. Eva maintains a strong will and is still determined to build a better life.

Eva is no stranger to people close to her capitalizing on her naivety. At one point in her life, she meets Rafael and they fall in love. Their relationship does not last long and are soon after separated. She also meets Albert Sr., who plays a fatherly role. He attempts to fulfill her desire for a father figure. The book has a cryptic constellation of characters, many of whom keep on pulling Eva back to the abyss.

The story is readable and comes with a lot of twists and turns. For a reader, it is possible to keep interested in the book until the end. As well, parents should understand this book may not be suitable for everyone. It is highly voluptuous. The book is an easy read.

Jarred Into Being is hard to put down. It is engaging and you will want to know what happened next. The book is so compelling that you will be upset about not being able to do anything to help the 13 year old who carries the weight of the world on her feeble shoulders.
