Things To Know About Gamification Training

By Catherine Watson

New trends are being practiced when it comes to learning within the workplace or in schools. These techniques can help in encouraging search for knowledge and retention of information. For this reason, teachers and trainers should look into gamification training to improve their skills in educating their learners. Before engaging in one, here are some things to look into when choosing where to learn.

Having a basic understanding of what gamification is is the first step in deciding if this will work for a class. It is the method of using games and other fun activities to keep learners challenged to pursue knowledge. In most cases, rewards are given after achieving a milestone or overcoming a challenge. Skill points, incentives or tangible rewards are the usual options.

At present, this technique has various applications not just in schools but also in the workplace. In schools, teachers can create games to practice the skills learned after a lesson. This can also be used to encourage good behavior such as awarding points which are calculated every term. In the workplace, this is not just used in learning, but also for challenging employees to meet their goals, especially when it comes to sales.

With its popularity, an educator is given many options when it comes to studying this method. High quality lessons and industrially accepted certifications are generally offered by established colleges and universities all over the world. In many cases, the class is offered as a part of advanced study programs. Online institutions and educational websites offer options for remote study, and may also offer certificates.

Depending on which institution is offering the course, requirements for enrollment vary. If the class is offered as part of a masters degree or advanced certificate, a college diploma may be required. Short courses, especially those offered online, may just require a high school diploma and understanding of the medium of instructions. Learners are also expected to be creative and have a keep knowledge of the subject that they would like to develop a game on.

Although this technique seems great for encouraging learning, take note that there may also be some questions about its impact. Some claim that it is not as effective as it claims to be. Creation of materials to be used for the learning activities may take more time in designing than traditional materials. The educators should also come up with encouraging rewards, and sometimes, this may come at a monetary cost.

Once a teacher is willing to enroll into this course, he should consider the cost of learning. Tuition fees can range from a few hundred dollars to a thousand dollars for high quality courses at reputable institutions. But if he just wants to learn the principles and do not give too much value on the certificate, he can take advantage of certain online courses that have lower subscriptions fees and will not require him to be physically present in school.

Even if a learning technique has been proven to be effective, the teacher should still evaluate if this is a great addition to his class. He can learn the basics through reading researches and online articles on the subject. Peers who have already studied and implemented the method can also give an idea on its effectiveness.
