When it comes to the West coast, it has been home to some of the most amazing poets in the world. In fact, many of the beat poets of the 50s and 60s attended classic poetry readings Los Angeles. While this is the case, there are still classic and classical poetry events going on all over the world.

Classical poetry events are often a bit different from ongoing open mics and slams. For, these events feature poets reading nothing other than classical material. While numerous poets attempt to write in the classical style, it is not an easy task. Whereas, those attending these events know the difference between classical poetry and other styles and are often disappointed when a reading differs from expectation.

Most poets whom defined oneself as a classical poet tend to focus only on this style. As such, it is important that the host of such readings are cautious to keep poets solely focused on classical material. Otherwise, the host and venue could be lost when disappointed poets move on to more classically oriented venues in the future.

Individuals wishing to host this type of reading need to be sure that the event is held at times which are convenient and accommodating. For, there is always a time which is better for most poets and fans than others. Generally, weekends and weeknights are the most popular time for all types of poetry readings.

Depending on the number of poets at an event, hosts can either provide a sign-up sheet or host a storm the mike type of event. In the latter, anyone feeling the urge to read simply jumps on stage. Whereas, when a sign up sheet is involved, the host generally introduces each poet whom reads in succession according to the number next to the name.

Organization is a key factor for any type of public literary event. In particular, depending on the size of the event and expected audience, it is important to have the appropriate stage set up and seating. In addition, venues to be in line with the overall energy of the event.

Some of the most interesting readings are ones in which the host plays around with the lighting and sound. In addition, providing a theme for each reading can often be a great way to keep poets interested in creating new and different work between events. Although, there are also a number of popular open-mics all over the world in which poets are welcome to read renown authors as well as original material.

When providing a theme, poets can also decide whether or not to attend an event based on personal interest. For, themes which relate to life, death, lifestyles politics, romance or social justice can often be uncomfortable for some poets depending on personal experience. While this is the case, most poets tend to be more open-minded than otherwise, as is often shown by the original writings often featured at these events.
