Introduction | | Don't you just love it when people listen to you?
I mean "listen", really listen, hanging on your every breath, stretching each and every one of their fibrous sinews to understand, truly understand not only the words that you say, but also the meaning you want to convey.
It feels great, doesn't it?
However, how often do you get that feeling?
For most of us, the moon needs to be a certain shade of "blue" for that to happen, right? Unsurprisingly, one of the reasons that people don't listen well to you, is that you probably don't, well, listen to them!
Resolving this dilemma, requires you to improve your ability to listen. In doing so, you know this will lead to you being listened to more. Ultimately, this will afford you greater influence, something I know we'd all like a little more of.
This Workshop therefore takes an emotionally intelligent approach to listening. Our focus taps into psychology, and revolves around perceptions, both yours and theirs.
At the heart of being "heard", there is always a respectful listener, one who continually demonstrates the power of being "present". We'll thus delve deeper, extending into the need to model for others, what good listening means. | | Workshop Objectives | | Our intentions are to transform your ability to listen fully to other speakers, draw meaning from their message, whilst strengthening your ability to speak, and be listened to.
You'll use the skills to start becoming fully "present" in the company of others. You'll find that as you sit up and take notice of them, they likewise start to take notice of you.
Emotional intelligence or EQ sits well at the heart of this soft skills Workshop, as you raise your awareness of things that you need to do, to make listening better, for others. | | | | | | Workshop Outlines | | - Reframing listening as a sensory experience
- Factoring in the senses, and the role of awareness
- Listening attentively, with use of non-verbal behaviours
- Listening not just for the logic, but for the emotion & meaning
- Making small changes to how you speak to support their listening
- Purposefully embracing EQ to reflect the needs of your audience
- Enhancing engagement by incorporating story telling elements
- Naturally integrating the dual actions of listening & speaking

His learning delivery approach therefore focuses on building those important soft skills. Training thus scaffolds atop three firm foundations.
First, for learning to stick, it needs to be fun; enjoyment & engagement are precursors to absorption & adoption. Next, for learning to be relevant, it has to be real; it needs collaboration, openness, and a little intensity. Finally, for learning to be desirable, it must match expectations; it has to substantially deliver what it says "on the tin".
Patrick therefore designs Workshop experiences that masterfully combine Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) with a deep Coaching mentality. Both are invitingly interlaced using Improvisational techniques. His diverse background and experience also allow him to facilitate inclusive and valuable learning moments. These are highly engaging, empowering, and, enjoyable.
His life's journey has straddled different countries and cultures in Ireland, England, New Zealand and Singapore. He has worked his way through a variety roles, from individual contributor to Managing Director, in the corporate world. And, he has built considerable business experience along the way in working across sectors such as government, technology, manufacturing, finance, consulting, aviation, telecommunications and the Internet.
His formal education is well rounded: Honours in IT, Masters in Marketing and MBA in Finance. He is also a "Master Practitioner" of NLP, and an enthusiastic author with Articles regularly appearing in the local media. In whatever form you experience his work, you'll always feel his curiously cheerful sense of enjoyment; it shines through.
Patrick is an active member of many international Professional bodies, such as the Chartered Management Institute, the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Institute of Directors. He is proud to be one of only a small handful of "Chartered Managers" in Asia.
With a warm Irish wit, a love of the "craic" and a big beaming smile, audiences in over twenty-five countries have found his disarmingly unpretentious and conversational approach to learning, to be refreshing and rewarding experiences. | | | | | | |
