1 day The Powerful Emotions: Passion and Anger
- Use your emotions to fuel performance and success

Introduction

It was not too long ago that emotions had no place in the business world. They were seen as a total waste of time and unproductive. Boy, how things have changed. Today, inspiring emotions is a critical part of any entrepreneur's business repertoire.

Powerful leaders know very well that emotions are vital to success. Emotions in fact are the driving force to higher performance, better productivity in business. It is one thing to understand how to control emotional stress as it can prevent your effectiveness on the job, but another to use emotions to drive influence internally and externally.

Much has been written and said about anger, frustration and aggression, but before we 'judge' our so-called negative emotions we need to hear what they have of value for us.

Anger and passion, for example, are interconnected. And anger has a lot to do with motivation and self- awareness. Passion might not be always positive. Both are most complex and confusing feelings, and many are not aware they go hand-in-hand. Many people have negative views of anger overall, but in reality, anger can be both: empowering and disempowering. Just like passion.

This hands-on workshop will lead participants to understand and experience the underlying power of these two emotions as well as dispel the common myths about the causes and uses of anger and passion in life and at work, and how by recognizing and understanding, integrating them in our life and work we can achieve success and improve performance.

The Essential Counsellor - Supporting Staff through Difficulties( 1 day workshop )

Introduction

Sometimes a deterioration in the performance of a staff goes beyond just them not knowing what or how to do their jobs. They could be experiencing difficulties of a more personal nature that might be affecting their motivation and attitude. These underlying issues can be addressed through the counseling process. Staff feel supported and comforted when they know that there is someone, either their leaders or those who take on the counseling role, who is willing to listen to them and understand their problems and challenges. In addition to the important feeling of being supported and understood, staff are left feeling empowered through the counseling process. They begin to realize that there are aspects of the situation that they are in that they can influence and therefore help themselves.

This Essential Counseling Skills workshop is design to help managers, supervisors and team leaders, or those who take on the counseling role, to give this support without taking away the responsibility of the staff for their own performance and at the same time look after the emotional health of their team or those under their care.

Workshop Objectives

Participants will be able to :
  • Understand the intent and characteristics of counseling
  •  Understand the characteristic required of the counselor
  •  Understand the 5 phases of the counseling process and the objectives  of each phase.
  •  Understand the 5 factors required in motivation and how these fit  into the counseling process
  •  Develop the Essential Counseling skills of:
    • Developing Rapport
    • Problem Identification
    • Engaging Intrinsic motivation
    • Generating Personalized Solutions
    • 'Practicalizing' the solution implementation
  •  Apply the Essential Counseling Skills through case study discussions and role plays

As a result of applying the skills learnt in this workshop, participants will gain the added benefit of :
  • being seen as someone who can be turned to, depended upon and trusted with sensitive issues.
  • being able to improve the emotional health of others
  • improving the overall work climate
